Tourism Development Area
This is truly a superb opportunity to acquire and develop a pier and hotel on one of the best beaches in the world. Carlisle Bay has grown over the last 30 years into one of the most beautiful natural bays on the planet. You can see turtles swimming alongside snorkelers, wreck-divers floats near glass bottom boats, paddle boarders and jet ski enthusiasts navigating around the motor yachts and sailing vessels all as you stroll along the mile and a half strip of golden white sand filled with tourists and locals playing volleyball, paddle tennis, doing yoga or just relaxing on the beach. It truly is an extraordinary mixture of the best of everything that beach-life incorporates and is enjoyed by anyone and everyone who cares to take part.
Located at the edge of Bridgetown on the south-western part of the island, the area was once home to a collection of night clubs and bars that sprung up in the 1950’s. These establishments catered to sailors and sea fearers who came ashore from navy and other vessels that would visit the island from time to time. The site still has the remaining shell of the old eye hospital that functioned in the 50’s 60’s but the remaining area of the property is otherwise clear. There was a jetty on the site no doubt used for loading and off-loading lighter craft that came in to take supplies back out to their larger ships. Many of the older buildings in the area are now giving way to newer beach bars, restaurants and clubs that offer lunch and a place to relax or swim during the day with private functions and parties planned into the night. The area has been identified as one of special interest for tourism development and the owner of the land has submitted plans for a hotel to be developed on the site along with the rebuilding of the old pier.
